People joining extremist movements can easily serve the Belgian army.The Defence Minister Pieter De Crem (CD & V) has in fact no legal basis to expel soldiers for their beliefs Salafists, said Thursday the newspaper De Morgen.
Several weeks ago, however, the minister promised that extremists would be made at the door. "All Salafism within Defence will not be tolerated and will lead irrevocably to dismissal," he had said to the Defense Committee after the announcement of the presence of a dozen soldiers with radical Islamic beliefs within the intelligence military.
